ABOUT ALPACAS

Alpacas are gentle, intelligent camelids originally from the high Andes of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and northern Chile. Renowned for fleece that’s softer than cashmere and warmer than wool. Two distinct breeds graze our meadow, the teddy-fluffy Huacaya and the rarer, silky-locked Suri (fewer than 10 % worldwide). In Britain’s mild climate they thrive for 15–20 years; adult males are Machos, females Hembras, and youngsters Crias.

MEET OUR BOYS

Commander — born 2 Jul 2022

Mid-fawn Huacaya with a dense 3-4 inch coat and an unmissable mullet fringe. Good-natured, gentle and inquisitive and—like most teenagers—a touch bossy with the younger lads.

Boomer — born 9 Jun 2021

Our “elder brother” and a Huacaya. Although he looks ebony, a silvery dorsal stripe classifies him as a modern grey. Shy around strangers, he’ll overcome nerves instantly for carrot or apple treats. After shearing his trademark is a pair of outrageously fluffy ears.

Enzo — born 26 Jun 2024

A Suri cria whose silky mid-brown baby fleece is the height of luxury. Premature at birth, he was bottle-reared, so he’s very relaxed around people and loves a neck scratch. Mischievous and nosy, he shadows his BFF Einstein and they can often be seen lying and feeding close together.

Einstein — born 2 Jul 2024

Pure-white Suri and the herd’s prodigy and named for his fast development, he was standing and suckling within half an hour of arrival. A little more cautious than Enzo but learning fast in halter training.

From Boomer’s shy charm to Enzo and Einstein’s inseparable antics, each alpaca has a personality as distinctive as his fleece. Come and meet them, feel the difference between Huacaya plush and Suri silk, and meet these captivating creatures for yourself.
